This thesis is dedicated to chart the Šumava boundary areas (previous district Prachatice). Precisely the places, where were some churches before. This thesis is not just about description material sacral monuments which is not exists any more, but also about deep understand of situation, which lead to the termination of sacral architecture (just church) or the villages themselves. The fotodocumentation is a part of the thesis. European Painters of Native Tribes

The subject of a thesis is theoretical analysis of artistic work of two painters who as first ones showed in early modern Europe the visual appearance of the American native tribes. French Jacques le Moyne de Morgues and English John White were colonization pioneers of the New world in the second half of 16th century. Their work was extended through engravings of Theodor de Bry, Flemish engraver, after their return to the Old continent. Though the engraver purposely manipulated with their pictures - he edited the images and added various details. The thesis also deals with question what was the main intention of the Flemish engraver. Methodological resource was collecting information and text interpretation. The purpose of the thesis is familiarization with life and work of the European painters who as first ones depicted American Indian tribes and with activity of Theodor de Bry who extended their work in Europe. Spanish-Dutch Relations in the New World during the Existence of the West Indische Compagnie Eva Kubátová Abstract This dissertation is dedicated to the Spanish-Dutch relations in the New World during the existence of the first Dutch West India Company (1621-1674). On base of an imagological analysis, this thesis presents elements of mutual relations, reflected in hetero-images, together with self-representation of both analyzed parties (thus self-image) within the ongoing conflict of the Eighty Years' War. The imagological analysis is applied on archival material, chiefly the Dutch pamphlets and Spanish Relaciones de sucesos (which can be translated as "Treatises of Successes"). The result of this thesis is then an analysis of development and changes of mutual images, upon the historical events of the Spanish-Dutch war conflict: thus since the beginnings of the Dutch Revolt, passing through the Twelve Years' Truce, until the signature of the Peace of Westphalia in 1648. A special emphasis is put to the final phase of the Eighty Years' War, in this thesis delimited by the years 1621-1648, which was marked by the official entrance of the West India Company into the Spanish waters of Greater Caribbean. Representations of Conquering the New World

The thesis deals with the issue of the representation of the New World conquest in literature most accessible to the Czech reader, i.e. not only literature of Czech origin but also translations. The thesis contains representation of different kinds of literature and a narratological analysis of work with the selected topic. The work will point out the plurality and diversity of approaches to the topic and the individual authors who interpret the historical event through their texts. Then, with the help of comparing the individual publications, it will identify the author's possibilities to shape the reader's awareness and knowledge of the conquest but also how these can be manipulated. Diachronic comparisons will also point to changes in reception over time.

Themes of Immigration and Assimilation in the Fiction of Abraham Cahan

This diploma thesis aims to analyze the varied aspects linked with the themes of immigration and assimilation in the fiction of the Jewish-Lithuanian immigrant writer Abraham Cahan. The protagonists of his fiction are all Jewish immigrants struggling to adapt to the American cultural life economically, but also linguistically, socially, as well as in appearance. The thesis examines struggles such as alienation from and suppression of many cultural features of the old country, and analyzes one novel (The Rise of David Levinsky), two novellas (The Imported Bridegroom and Yekl, A Tale of the New York´s Ghetto) and four short stories ("A Providential Match", "A Sweatshop Romance", "Circumstances" and "A Ghetto Wedding").

Inca Garcilaso de la Vega is one of the first significant mestizo writers, born in the New World. The aim of my work is to outline, at last partially, the endeavour of Inca Garcilaso de la Vega to harmonise the Old and New World. In the inconsisitent XVI. century could appeared as very utopic. Thus I would like to zoom into the Inca's culture and society and at the same time into the European society of this era, to allow better understanding of Inca Garcilaso de la Vega's identity itself. PhDr. Jana Kybalová, CSc. 2014 ABSTRACT Highly regarded throughout the world, Bohemian glass is also acknowledged as a cultural phenomenon in its own right and the Harrach glassworks in Nový Svět in Krkonoše indisputably ranks among the most accomplished companies that have had a determining influence on the world renown of Czech glassmaking. First documented in the early 18th century, the glassworks has been in existence for three hundred years. However, its prominent status among Bohemian producers of glass is not only due to its long history. What makes it noteworthy is its traditionally outstanding craftsmanship and technological facilities, and mainly its foresighted efforts to employ and further enhance diverse techniques in working with crystal and coloured glass. Etické aspekty obrazu lesa v díle N. Hawthornea

The diploma thesis is focused on analysis and interpretation of Nathaniel Hawthorne?s literature work and its specific theme: the role of the forest and its ethical aspects in particular stories. The principle of this work is focused on general relationship between American literature and the theme of the forest, which is deeply rooted in the history of American colonization and creating new American nation. The main aim is to point out the specific role of the forest in American literature (especially the influence of puritanism and transcendentalism). Another aim is to find out if the forest really represents important moral aspects and influences the behaviour of both individuals and the whole society in Hawthorne?s work. Answers to these questions can be found in the fundamental part of the diploma thesis, which is based on the literary analysis of particular texts, novels and short stories, in which the world of the forest is confronted with the problems of morality and faith.
